Bunch of crooks if you ask me.

lgf: Saturday Morning Open Thread: "Troubling Land Grab in Colorado A retired judge and former mayor of Boulder Colorado, Richard McLean, has stirred a hornets nest by getting a fellow judge to award him 34% of his neighbor's land at no cost! This was done under the legal doctrine of 'adverse possession' where the former judge claimed he had knowingly trespassed on his neighbor's lot for over 25 years (while a sitting judge, yet). District Court Judge James Klein then ruled that judge McLean and his wife (former Democratic party chairman of Boulder County) were entitled to 34% of their neighbor's lot as they had a greater attachment to it than the original owners - even though they had been paying taxes and home owners dues on the property for 25 years (last year's tax bill was over $16,000). What this is really about is the owners of the lot were about to build a house on the lot which would block the mountain view of the retired judge. By taking 34% of the lot (valued at $1,000,000), it is no longer buildable. To add insult to injury, judge McLean has gone back to court asking that he be reimbursed for his legal costs. One would hope that such apparent chicanery would be overthrown by a higher court or barring that. alas. an exodus from that corrupt seeming county by any prudent investor .
