Hiya to Merlin & Gecko!

Now she has a picture to ogle. We have an infestation of mites just now - perhaps the stress of the move did it. Mickey the canary has air sac mites really bad, poor thing, & I'm very concerned for Beaky now.

Yesterday ordered "Scatt" & A.I.L. (Avian Insect Liquidator) to be sent overnight from a place in NH. They are imports from Australia & have not yet passed FDA, so are hard to come by. The literature says they're the best & totally non-toxic (you can spray AIL without covering food & water, unlike all the other stuff I found in stores, so think that must be the way to go) Scatt is a single-drop application to the skin (between shoulder-blades - gosh! this is gonna be fun) & kills any bugger that bite.

Also have seedmoths & have been doing the trap thing, with marginal success. Time for the heavy artillary: DEATH TO ALL INSECT PESTS!!!! NOW!!!

Only recommendation is to find a dispenser that delivers a small-enough drop for Mickey. I'll hit the drugstores today to see about a syringe (ya blunt the needle with a rasp). Might be difficult, since I'm not diabetic & don't shoot-up

Too late for Mickey - just got a call from my housemate that he didn't make it thru the night. Beaky has lost her pal & is very upset. They're all in the other town, while I'm in the old town, house/pet sitting for friends while they're on vacation. Was afraid this would happen: I did not take action soon enough & Mickey paid for it with his life.

DO NOT WAIT

Ewww- mites. One more thing to worry about.
Merlin is an only bird and , thankfully , he does enjoy somewhat lengthy showers where we sometimes hear him laughing and saying I love you. He is always good for a laugh.

Good for Merlin. No wonder he looks so great. Pedro too took a shower with my Dad every evening & loved the hose being turned on him while outside.

Beaky, as is customary with Greys, is not wild about water, especially when she can't control the source. Makes sense, since Amazons in habitat have to deal with daily rain-showers, while Greys don't. Do notice Beaky does what I call DiggieBird, a sort of scratching with one leg, while on a flat surface such as the couch. She'll hunt for an object & spastically throw it over her shoulder. Seems they do that in the wild, tho to date, the researcher aren't sure why. Dust bath? That makes sense vis-a-vis the environment.

Beaky does like to stand on the shower-rod & will even come down & stand on my legs in the tub. Sometimes she'll bite the water & flap, tho she really doesn't get very wet. Also does the Bird-Bath-Bird while on her T-perch stand, using the water cup. Water goes everywhere, some of it even on herself.

We'll have to work on the water thing.
